Because avoiding “unhealthy” foods at any costs isn’t good for your mental health, and since mental health and physical health or usually directly linked, being a “health freak” can actually make you unhealthy.
People who suffer from orthorexia can actually often suffer from many nutrient deficiencies, and/or become underweight because of their fear of eating things that aren’t “clean foods”.
If my friends served fruit salad to snack on during a movie night, I’d happily dig in, but since it’s usually popcorn and crisps, I’ll just as happily eat those; just like most healthy-minded and healthy-bodied people do. :)
You shouldn’t be scared of food! And if you are, then you need to get help to recover from that fear. xx
